This course is designed to prepare students for employment and apprenticeships in the motor industry by introducing them to the fundamentals of motor vehicle engineering and the principles which underpin it. The combination of classroom theory, workshop practice and weekly work placement provide an excellent learning opportunity for any student considering a career in the motor industry or related field.

This course offers a diverse range of employment opportunities in the technical, administrative and managerial areas and a wide range of opportunities for self- employment.

Description

The Motor Technology course is delivered from Monday to Thursday with Friday reserved for work experience placement. A well-equipped garage workshop enables students to enjoy putting the lessons learned in theory class into practice thereby enhancing the learning process. Continuous assessment is carried out over the duration of the course to distribute the workload proportionately throughout the year. The work experience placement allows the student to see first-hand the scope and availability of opportunities within the motor industry in Ireland at this time.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have achieved Leaving Certificate or equivalent. Mature applicants with suitable industry experience/qualifications may also apply. Admission is limited and subject to interview.

Career Prospects

Students who have successfully completed the Motor Technology course at Kylemore College in recent years have continued to study to degree level in DIT while others have continued their education through apprenticeship in the motor trade.

The motor industry incorporates the latest developments in technology and engineering making it a dynamic and exciting place to work.
